GREEK GODDESS

 Aphrodite (Roman name Venus) was the goddess of love, and beauty. She was also a protector of sailors. It was said that she was born of sea-foam. Homer on the other hand, said she was a daugther of Zeus and Dione. When the Trojan prince Paris was asked to judge which of these three olympian goddesses was the most beautifull, he chose Aphrodite over Hera and Athena.

Athena (Roman name Minerva) was the goddess of crafts and the domestic arts and also of war. Athena was originally the great goddess in the form of a bird. During this period, she had come to be regarded as a goddess of wisdom. Athena is the daugther of Zeus. She sprang full grown in armor from his forehead, thus had no mother. Her tree is the olive tree.

Artemis (Roman name Diana) was the goddess of the hunt. She helped woman in childbirth, but also brought sudden death with her arrows. Artemis and her brother Apollo were the children of Zeus and Leto. In some versions of their myth, Artemis was born first and helped her mother to deliver Apollo niobe, queen of Thebes once boasted that she was better than Leto because she has many children while the goddess had two.

Hera (Roman name Juno) was the goddess of marriage. Hera was the wife of Zeus and queen of olympians. Hera hated the hero Hercules since he was the son of husband Zeus so she tried to kill him once but she failed to do so. The second time she tried to kill him she sent snakes to kill him.

Demeter was the goddess of agriculture. Demeter was sister of Zeus and the mother of Persephone. One day Persephone was gathering wild flowers in the meadow when a huge crack opened up in the earth, and Hades King of Dead, emerged from underworld. He seized Persephone and carried her off in his carriage, back down his chariot down to the underworld. While she was down there Hades forced her to marry him, so later on she decided to become queen of underworld. Demeter was heart broken, she wandered the length and the breath of earth in search og her daughter, during the earth which time the crops wither up and were dieing of the cold weather. 

GREEK GOD

Zeus (Roman name Jupiter) was the supreme god of the Olympian. He was the father of the heroes Perseus and Heracles, the latter of whom once wrestled him to draw. Zeus was the youngest son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea. When he was born, his father Cronus intended to swallow him as he had all of his siblings : Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter and Hera. But Rhea hid the newborn in a cave on Mt Dicte in Crete. (to this day, guides at the “cave of Zeus” use their flashlights to cast shadow puppets in the cave, creating images of baby Zeus from the myth

Poseidon (Roman name Neptune) is God of the sea, earthquakes, and horses. He spent his time in his watery domain. Poseidon had married Nereus’s daughter, the sea nymph, Amphitine. Poseidon was brother to Zeus and Hades. Zeus was ruler of the sky, Hades had domain of underworld, and Poseidon was given all water, both fresh and salt

Apollo (Roman name Apollo) was the god of prophesy, music and healing. Of all the heroes besiding the city of Troy in the trojan War, Achillies was the best by far. When somebody died suddenly, he was said to have been struck by one of Apollo’s arrows. As a god of music, Apollo is often depicted playing his lyre. He did not invent this instrument, however, but was given it by Hermes in compensation for the cattle theft

Ares  (Roman name Mars) was the god of war, or more precisely of warlike frenzy. Through an immortal deity, he was bested by Heracles in the battle and was almost killed when stuffed into a jar by two giants. When another hero wounded him during the Trojan War, he received scant sympathy from his father Zeus. In appearance, Ares was handsome and cruel. He is often depicted carrying a bloodstained spear. His throne on Mt Olympus was said to be covered in human skin

Hephaestus (Roman name Vulcan) was the lame god of fire and crafts or the two together, hence of blacksmiths. Hephaestus was the son of Hera and Zeus, or in some accounts, of Hera alone. He limped because he was born lame, which caused his mother to throw him off Mount Olympus. Or in other accounts, he interceded in a fight between Zeus and Hera, Zeus took him by the foot and threw him from Mount Olympus to the earth far below

Dionysus (roman name Bacchus) was the god of wine. Dionysus was the son of Zeus. Dionysus rescued Adriane after she had been abandoned by Theseus. Dionysus also saved his mother from the underworld, after Zeus showed her his true nature of a Storm god and consumed her in lightning. It was Dionysus who granted Midas the power to turn whatever he touched into gold, then was kind enough to take the power back when it proved inconvenient.

Once upon a time there was an island
where all the feelings
lived; Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge,
and all the others, including Love.One day it was announced to all of the
feelings that the island was going to
sink to the bottom of the ocean. All the
feelings prepared their boats to leave.
Love was the only one
that stayed. She wanted to preserve the
island paradise until
the last possible moment. When the
island was almost totally
under, Love decided it was time to leave.

She began looking for someone to ask for

Next Love saw Sadness passing by. Love
said,.Sadness, please
let me go with you.. Sadness
answered,.Love, I.m sorry, but I
just need tobe alone now..

Then Love saw Happiness. Love cried
out,.Happiness, please
take me with you.. But Happiness was so
overjoyed that he
didn.t hear Love calling to him.

Love began to cry. Then she heard a
voice say, .Come Love, I
will take you with me..It was an elder.
Love felt so blessed and
overjoyed that she forgot to ask the
elder his name.When they
arrived on land the elder went on his
way. Love realized how
much she owed the elder.

Love then found Knowledge and asked,
.Who was it that
helped me?..It was Time,. Knowledge
answered..But why did
Time help me when no one else would?.
Love asked. Knowledge smiled and with
deep wisdom and sincerity answered,

PAUL JULIUS ROUTER

Paul Julius Router, memulai bisnis untuk menjembatani telegraf sepanjang 76 mil antara Belgia dan Jerman. Jurang ini juga merupakan jurang pasar yang membentang di duanegara tersebut. Router membangun perusahaan dengan realisasi yang sederhana , pelanggan akan siap membayar untuk memperoleh informasi yang tepat waktu yang akurat, mereka menggunakan burung merpati untuk membawa berita tentang bursa saham dan harga harga komoditi di Brussel ke Aachen dimana kabel telegraf Belgia berakhir & kabel kabel telegraf Jerman berawal, sebelum Router memulai bisnisnya keberuntungan & kerugian dibursa saham eropa bisa diraih tanpa informasi yang akurat, padahal mereka yang uangnya dalam bentuk saham harus yakin bahwa informasi bisa mereka terima tepat waktu & akurat. Mereka bahkan siap membayar dengan harga yang pantas untuk setiap informasi yang akurat yang mereka terima walaupun sumber informasi tersebut mereka terima dari burung merpati. Setiap hari burung-burung merpati dikirim dengan kereta api ke Brussel, menjelang pagi burung-burung tersebut dipulangkan dengan membawa pesan dibawah sayap meerka. Setiap satu pesan dibawa oleh 3 burung merpati untuk memastikan agar pesan tersebut benar-benar bisa diterima oleh para pelanggan.

Awalnya Router mempunyai 45 burung merpati yang terlatih setelah itu mereka mengembangkannya menjadi 200 ekor burung, setelah era burung merpati berakhir Router menggunakan kuda sebagai pembawa pesan akhirnya monopoli Router berakhir pada tgl 16 April 1851. Namun Router kemudian pindah ke London dan dikota inilah informasi Router disebut “ yang pertama mendapat berita “ setelah itu Router memberitakan beberapa kejadian-kejadian didaratan Eropa untuk beberapa surat kabar terkemuka, akhirnya router berhasil membujuk London Times untuk menerbitkan beritanya. Inilah tonggak pertama image pemberitaan mulai dipancangkan. Selama seabad Router menjadi satu-satunya kantor berita kerajaan inggris ini memungkinkan mereka berkembang dengan cepat selama pertengahan pertama abad ke 20 setelah kekuasaan kerajaan Inggris berkurang Router beralih menjual informasi ekonomi kepada masyarakat perdagangan dunia . Sang pendiri kantor berita yang terkenal ini Julius Router meninggal dunia tahun 1899, setelah meletakkan dasar yang cukup kuat tentang bisnis pemberitaan.

Dia menarik garis

Dokter June Mc Carrol bukan cuma kita bahkan sebagian orang Amerika tidak begitu mengenal nama itu padahal perempuan asal Nebraska itu adalah salah satu tokoh yang meninggalkan maha karya yang tidak kecil bagi dunia. Beliau menyumbangkan sebuah penepuan bagi keamanan lalulintas yaitu garis putih yang selama ini sering kita temui membelah jalan yang kita lewati.

Waktu dokter June tengah mengendarai mobilnya tiba-tiba mobil dari arah yang berlawanan menabrak mobilnya, karena tidak ada garis putih yang membelah jalan maka sulit bagi siapapun untuk mengatakan bahwa seorang pengendara yang berada disebuah ruas dianggap bersalah ketika menabrak mobil diruas lain. Dari kejadian itu beliau mengusulkan kepada pemerintah California agar mengecet garis putih ditengah jalan, sayangnya ide ini tidak mendapat tanggapan yang serius dari pemeritah California, karena dianggap kurang praktis, setelah menerima jawaban yang kurang memuaskan lalu dia membawa ide tsb ke perkumpulan wanita di California. 7 tahun kemudian barulah pemerintah California menerima ide dokter June Mc Carrol.

Tahun 1924 ide membagi jalan dengan garis putih ditengahnya mulai diterapkan di California. Orang-orang menyebut garis tsb sebagai “GARIS Mc CARROL”

Segera setelah pemerintah menyetujui ide dokter June, kecelakaan di wilayah tsb berkurang secara drastis dan yang paling membanggakan bagi rakyat California adalah hampir semua negara dibelahan bumi ini menggunakan Garis Mc Carrol.

Peristiwa besar ini memberikan inspirasi bagi kita bahwa “ Kalau kita yakin gagasan kita adalah gagasan yang kita yakini manfaatnya bagi orang lain tetaplah gigih untuk memperjuangkannya sampai akhirnya gagasan kita disetujui. Kegigihan yang sopan dan menyenangkan seringkali menjadi salah satu kunci menuju sebuah keberhasilan”

TEMBOK BERLIN

Pasa suatu hari beberapa orang warga Berlin Timur memutuskan untuk mengirimkan “Hadiah “ kepada musuh mereka di Berlin Barat. Orang-orang Berlin Timur mengisi trk-truk dengan sampah, pecahan batu, puing-puing bangunan dan apapun yang tidak ada nilainya mereka membawa truk-truk itu menyebrangi ke wilayah perbatasan dan membuang muatan di wilayah Berlin Barat

Tidak perlu diceritakan bagaimana marahnya orang-orang Berlin Barat menerima “Hadiah Sampah” dari orang Berlin Timur yang mereka anggap sebagai musuh.

Mereka memutuskan untuk membayar “Hadiah” tersebut. Untunglah ada seorang yang bijaksana yang tahu akan rencana itu. Ia memberikan nasehat yang sangat berharga yaitu : “Hadiah Sampah” itu harus dibalas dengan hadiah yang bermanfaat bagi orang-orang Berlin Timur yang hidup dalam kekurangan

Akhirnya dikirimklah truk yang didalamnya berisi pakaian pantas pakai, obat-obatan, makanan dan beberapa barang yang sulit diperoleh diwilayah Berlin Timur. Disitu tertulis kata-kata “ Masing –masing memberi menurut kemampuannya memberi”

Warga Berlin Barat telah mempraktekkan filsafah Booker T washington yang intinya berbunyi, ” Saya tidak akan membiarkan orang lain mempersempit dan merendahkan jiwa saya dengan membuat saya membencinya”

Orang-orang Berlin Barat tersenyum karena mereka bisa lebih mulia dalam menyikapi sikap permusuhan dari orang Berlin Timur, hadiah yang mereka kirimkan tentu saja akan membuat orang Berlin Timur berterima kasih sambil merasa malu atas tindakan mereka yang kekanak-kanankan

Kiranya kita perlu belajar atas peristiwa tsb. Setidaknya kita perlu merenungkan kembali apakah kita masih perlu membalas kejahatan dengan kejahatan.
